ANTICIPATORY SET:

Before beginning this project, be sure that students are somewhat familiar with the six writing traits from previous lessons.

PROCEDURE:

1.         Before going to the computer lab, have students fill out information about the 6 writing traits onto a PowerPoint slide planner form.

2.         Introduce students to PowerPoint by taking them through the steps of choosing a design template.

3.         Have students create a title slide with the text, “6 Traits of Writing,” and the students’ name.

4.         Each of the following pages will focus on one of the 6 Traits.

5.         Once students have all of the information included in the PowerPoints, teach them about adding pictures from clip art that represent each trait.

6.         Finally, teach the students how to use slide transitions, music, etc. to enhance the final product.

CLOSURE:

When students have completed their shows, set up a viewing time in the lab for them to share their projects with classmates and parents.  At the end of the school year, burn a CD with all of the projects that students have created throughout the year.
